Did a regular google search from my CJP-NHRecords office today to find your wonderful webpage.
Thought maybe the Hornsby’s of Atlanta GA where my Grandfather’s family (see wikipedia) originates maybe a branch of your family line since my great grandfather was a preacher too. I was around before Bruce but didn’t have the major label support & funding he had but have pushed forward through a lot of adversity as “this River Bends” might explain.

Laura, you are exactly right in your assessment here. It is our job as church leaders and members to offer the unchurched the kind of experience that will bring them closer to God…maybe just one step closer at a time.

Stephen – This list can be worked on one item at a time until it is all working.

The church may not, as a previous comment stated, be able to do these every week, not sure why not on most of them though. But to expect people who are unchurched to come prepared is not going to happen, They come searching for something that they are not finding. I believe that is what you are addressing.

For too long we have put the burden on the people coming to church to rise up to our expectations and level when they come hurting, searching, and often questioning. Ed Stetzer has statistics on why there is a disconnect between the unchurched and the church. It will open your eyes to what they see and are looking for.

Wow. That is a powerful list, like a bulls-eye bound arrow in flight, but as a small town pastor, I have no idea where to begin to address such needs. I have no staff, no secretary, no worship leader … but, I’m taking your list to our next board meeting for discussion. Our little church is changing and growing, but nothing happens quickly or easily.

I believe it would be hard for any church to deliver on every single item every single week, but a good church should deliver on all these items over time.
I also believe that the church attendees need to have a prepared heart before they arrive, in order to recognize these items & other items that might fulfill their personal needs.
Thank the Lord that I can find these things at my church (COTH).
